What is Digital Story-telling?

Digital Story-telling is a product of the Internet and the Digital Age. For the first time it is now possible for ordinary people to have access to New Digital Media to tell their own stories. The most popular form of Digital Story-telling is the creative 'use of personal writing, photographic, and still images' put together with an appropriate soundtrack to form a story.
In reality Digital-storytelling is often a simple digital 'tape-slide' sequence or short video lasting 1-3 minutes that tells a personal story perhaps from childhood or a more recent event.
It can also be used to tell stories in which the Story-teller does not have first-hand experience.
For example, one digital story featured a large piece of concrete.
The story that unfolded was of how the story-teller's parents helped break down the Berlin Wall.
Poetry and verse
Digital Story-telling is also a great outlet for writing simple poetry and verse alongside appropriate images.
What do people get out of the creative processing of Digital Story-telling?
A great deal! People of all ages take part without any computer experience whatsoever. They learn how to write simple scripts, read them into a microphone, compile a story-board, select images, shoot video, edit, and compile the whole sequence.
A great introduction to the New Media for both young and old.
What happens to the Digital-stories?
The stories can be transferred to DVD for use on computer or on TV at home, or rendered and uploaded to social networking sites and video presentation sites such as You Tube for the world to see.
Ideally an archive copy should also be made and stored in your local museum or pubic archive.
