Record Photography
What is Record Photography?
It is the serious creation of an image intended to enhance knowledge and preserve a useful record for future generations.
Surely anyone can take a photograph.
True, but record photography is not just simply taking a quick digital photograph. Far from it!
Unlike the 'creative' imagery produced by most photographers record photography has its own agenda. It is used to complement other material such as manuscripts, artefacts, documents, reports and surveys. Often an expert knowledge may be needed on what and how to photograph the item - for example there is a right and wrong way to photograph a historic building, or handle a fragile valuable museum object. Handling valuable, delicate objects or working in sensitive environments assumes a totally dedicated professional approach.
Where does Heritage Recording UK fit in?
